Troubleshooting Guide

Having trouble with Remio? Find your issue below and follow the steps to fix it. Most problems can be resolved in under a minute.

📡

Can't Connect to My Mac

Remio Client can't find or connect to Remio Host
Possible Causes
  • Devices are not on the same WiFi network
  • Firewall is blocking Remio's connection
  • Screen Recording permission not granted on Mac
  • Remio Host is not running on your Mac
How to Fix
  • Make sure both your Mac and iPhone/iPad are connected to the same WiFi network
  • Check that Remio Host is running — look for the Remio icon in your Mac's menu bar
  • Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording and make sure Remio Host is enabled
  • If you use a firewall (like Little Snitch), allow Remio Host to accept incoming connections
  • Try quitting and restarting Remio Host on your Mac
  • Restart your WiFi router if nothing else works
💡 Still not working? Remio can also connect over the internet via relay. Make sure you're signed in on both devices and the connection will be routed automatically.

Laggy or Choppy Stream

Video is stuttering, delayed, or low quality
Possible Causes
  • Weak WiFi signal or network congestion
  • Streaming resolution set too high for your network
  • Other apps consuming bandwidth (downloads, video calls)
  • Using relay instead of direct P2P connection
How to Fix
  • Move closer to your WiFi router for a stronger signal
  • Use a 5 GHz WiFi band instead of 2.4 GHz for faster speeds
  • Lower the streaming quality in Remio settings (try 1080p instead of 4K)
  • Close bandwidth-heavy apps (video streaming, large downloads)
  • If possible, connect your Mac via Ethernet cable for the most stable connection
  • Make sure both devices are on the same local network for P2P (lowest latency)
💡 Performance tip: For the best experience, use WiFi 5 (802.11ac) or WiFi 6 (802.11ax). You need at least 5 Mbps for 1080p and 20 Mbps for 4K streaming.

No Audio from Mac

Screen is streaming but there's no sound
Possible Causes
  • Audio permissions not granted to Remio Host
  • Mac system volume is muted or very low
  • iPhone/iPad volume is muted or on silent mode
  • Audio output device misconfigured on Mac
How to Fix
  • Check that Remio Host has permission to capture audio in System Settings → Privacy & Security
  • Make sure your Mac's volume is turned up (not muted)
  • Check that your iPhone/iPad is not on silent mode — flip the side switch
  • Turn up the volume on your iPhone/iPad
  • Try restarting Remio Host to reinitialize audio capture
💡 Note: Remio captures system audio from your Mac and streams it to your mobile device. Some apps with DRM protection may not allow audio capture.

Input Not Working

Taps, keyboard, or gestures aren't controlling the Mac
Possible Causes
  • Accessibility permission not granted on Mac
  • Remio Host needs to be re-authorized after a macOS update
How to Fix
  • Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
  • Make sure Remio Host is listed and enabled
  • If it's already enabled, try toggling it off and on again
  • After a macOS update, you may need to remove Remio from the list and re-add it
  • Restart Remio Host after changing permissions
💡 Why Accessibility? This permission allows Remio to receive touch/keyboard input from your mobile device and translate it into mouse and keyboard actions on your Mac. Without it, you can see your screen but can't interact.

Connection Keeps Dropping

Connection is unstable or disconnects frequently
Possible Causes
  • Unstable WiFi connection or network interference
  • Mac is going to sleep or activating screen saver
  • Network switching (e.g., moving between WiFi access points)
  • VPN or proxy interfering with the P2P connection
How to Fix
  • Ensure a stable WiFi connection — avoid moving between rooms while connected
  • Prevent your Mac from sleeping: System Settings → Energy → Prevent automatic sleeping
  • If you're using a VPN, try disconnecting it — VPNs can interfere with P2P connections
  • Try switching between P2P and relay mode in Remio settings to see which is more stable
  • Use an Ethernet cable on your Mac for the most reliable connection
  • Restart your WiFi router if drops persist
💡 P2P vs Relay: Remio defaults to P2P (peer-to-peer) on local networks for lowest latency. If P2P is unstable, relay mode routes through our servers and can be more reliable on complex networks.
